Blind Rivets for Truck and Trailer Industry

Upgrade your truck manufacturing with RIVMATE — achieve faster installation and vibration-resistant fastening you can rely on.

Truck and Trailer Rivet Solution

What Are Blind Rivets for Truck and Trailer Industry?

Designed to withstand the harsh operating conditions of the truck and trailer industry—including intense vibration, heavy loads, and long-term use—RIVMATE’s Blind Rivets for the Truck and Trailer Industry are specifically engineered for these applications. They are widely used for joining body panels and frame structures.

Compared to traditional fastening methods, they enable faster installation, effectively prevent loosening due to vibration, and enhance the overall structural reliability.

Pain Points in Truck and Trailer Fastening Applications

Blind Rivets for Truck and Trailer Industry

Vibration-Induced Loosening → Permanently Riveted Structure

Under high-frequency vibration conditions, bolts are prone to loosening, leading to structural failure and even safety risks; by using structural blind rivets, a permanently locked connection can be achieved, effectively preventing loosening issues.

truck body Welding Heat Distortion

Welding Heat Distortion → Cold Mechanical Fastening

The high temperatures generated by welding can cause material deformation and coating damage, affecting structural precision and durability; using blind rivets achieves heat-free connections, maintaining stable material properties.

rivet installation

Low Assembly Efficiency → Fast One-Side Installation

Traditional bolting or welding processes are inefficient and slow down the overall vehicle production cycle; using blind rivets for trucks enables fast one-side installation (2–5 seconds), significantly improving assembly efficiency.

Difficult Access During Maintenance → Blind Installation

Many truck and trailer structures feature enclosed spaces, making two-sided operations difficult and increasing maintenance costs; blind rivets support single-side installation, allowing you to efficiently complete connections even in confined spaces.

Rivmate FAQs - Blind Rivets for Truck and Trailer Industry

Blind Rivets for Truck and Trailer Industry

1. What size blind rivets are used for truck and trailer body panels?

Blind rivets in the range of 4.0mm–6.4mm (5/32‘–1/4’) are typically selected, depending on the panel thickness and structural requirements. For standard box trucks, 6.4mm is the safer choice.

For heavy-duty body and frame applications, it is recommended to use structural rivets or lockbolts directly. These provide higher shear strength and vibration resistance, making them the mainstream solution for truck blind rivets.

In truck and trailer manufacturing, the most commonly used sizes are 4.8 mm and 6.4 mm, as they strike a balance between strength and installation efficiency, making them suitable for most applications involving blind rivets for semi-trucks.

For aluminium bodies, you should prioritise large flange rivets or multi-grip rivets, as these prevent thin sheet metal from deforming and accommodate different combinations of panel thicknesses.

We recommend using stainless steel blind rivets or sealed rivets, as these offer superior heat resistance and sealing performance, making them suitable for exhaust and piping systems.

If corrosion resistance is a priority, opt for stainless steel or coated steel rivets; aluminium rivets are suitable for lightweight applications but offer relatively weaker corrosion resistance.

For repair applications, we recommend using large flange rivets or sealing rivets; these allow installation from a single side whilst ensuring both aesthetic appearance and a secure seal.

For exterior sheet metal, you should prioritise Large Flange (anti-distortion) or Dome Head (general purpose); if appearance is a requirement, Countersunk can be used to achieve a flush surface.

Yes, in high-vibration environments and on rough roads, you should use structural blind rivets, as they provide a stronger clamping force and prevent loosening over time, making them the key choice for blind rivets used on trucks.

You will typically need to use a pneumatic or electric rivet gun; for structural rivets, the pull force requirement is higher, generally 10 kN or more, depending on the specific type and size of the rivet.
